Johan studied Law at the University of the Free State and served Articles of Clerkship with Hill McHardy and Herbst Attorneys in Bloemfontein from December 1985.
In 1988 Johan decided to focus his career on the Administration of Insolvent Estates, and has been practicing as a fulltime Insolvency Practitioner since.
Johan is a member of SARIPA (The South African Restructuring and Insolvency Practitioners Association NPC), the governing body of Insolvency and Business Rescue Practitioners.
Over the years he has developed SAFTrust Insolvency Practitioners into a highly regarded practice with a broad Client base emanating from different Industries and Environments. He has successfully managed the administration of many hundred insolvent estates.
In so doing, Johan has also earned the confidence and respect of Creditors, Legal Representatives, Auditors, and Colleagues for his Professionalism, Negotiating Skills, and his Personal and Business Integrity.
As a result, Johan and SAFTrust Insolvency Practitioners have become one of the most respected players in the Industry.
Margaret is a young Lady who has a thirst for knowledge and is dedicated to her work.
After joining SAFTrust in 2009, she obtained a Diploma in Insolvency Law and Practice from the University of Johannesburg in 2011.
Margaret also has a Degree in Public Administration and is currently studying for her LLB at UNISA.
Margaret qualified as an Insolvency Practitioner in 2016, and like Johan is a Member of SARIPA.
Over the 12 years that she has been with SAFTrust, Margaret has gained extensive experience in the Administration of Insolvent Estates and has become a well-respected Professional within the Industry.
Marelize joined SAFTrust is one of those very rare individuals who still works in the same job as she started the day after writing her Final Metric Exam in November 2005. Having initially interviewed for a holiday job, she so impressed Johan, that he asked her to stay on - the rest is History.
During the nearly 16 years with SAFTrust, Marelize has learnt and become efficient in literally every aspect of Estate Administration and became SAFTrust’s Office Manager in 2015. Indeed, in that role she literally became Johan’s PA and right hand as well!!
Marelize has developed good relationships with all those with whom she corresponds and has become known as the “Go To Person” when queries need to be answered.
In June this year (2021) SAFTrust opened an office in Cape Town, and Marelize was promoted to become the new Cape Town Office Manager, a role that she thoroughly deserves.
Walter is currently the longest serving Member of Staff at SAFTrust having worked there for more than 16 years.
Walter probably has one of the most varied roles of any position. Simple though it may sound, Walter has a huge responsibility in making sure that all the right documents go to the right person/destination in the right format, and back again - this especially to the Master’s Office where he has developed good relationships over the years.
In addition, Walter often deputises for Johan at Creditor’s Meetings in particular and has learnt how to deal with the various idiosyncrasies that each meeting has – they are rarely the same.
Walter’s favourite duty is to accompany Johan on trips away when he virtually becomes Johan’s travelling PA!! Apart from his obvious attributes, the fact that Walter is multi-lingual is obviously beneficial when travelling through the different areas of the Country.
Refilwe is the newest Member of the SAFTrust Team – she has been with SAFTrust Insolvency Practitioners for three years.
Even at her tender age, Refilwe already has a Higher Certificate in Office Administration and is currently sitting her exams for her second year for her Diploma in Business Administration.
Even though her job description is “Receptionist” and enjoys meeting and engaging with different people at all levels, her duties involve much more than that.
Probably one of her most important roles is the management of three of the most time-consuming tasks – New Claim Forms and completing the Employees IRP5’s and UIF Forms of Insolvent Estates.
Refilwe learns quickly and is a valued Member of Staff.
